Timeline:

1989: Company founded by Stanford University graduate students in electrical engineering.

1992: Following Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm, and with the help of a grant from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), the creator of the Internet, Savi introduced the first "smart container" tracking technology for the U.S. Department of Defense using active Radio Frequency Identification.

1994: Beating out several major contractors, Savi won a $70 million contract to provide RFID products to the U.S. DoD.

1995: Savi was acquired by Texas Instruments.

1996: Savi installed the first RFID network support to track supplies in Bosnia; the Germany ITV server was brought online, and key Defense Logistics Agency depots in the Continental United States were instrumented.

1997: Raytheon purchased Savi from Texas Instruments. At the same time, Savi brings online a Korea ITV server used by the U.S. DoD.

1999: Management, venture and corporate investors led the buyout of Savi from Raytheon and it became a private, independent company. At the same time, Savi instruments key DLA Depots Outside the Continental United States (OCONUS), and its tags and equipment receive Hazards of Electromagnetic Radiation to Ordnance (HERO) Certification for RF Tags and Equipment.

2000: CONUS Power Projection Platforms (PPP) Instrumented.

2001: Early Entry Deployment Support Kit (EEDSK) fielded, National/CONUS ITV Server brought online, RFID product support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF).

2002: Savi was the system integrator on the first real-world test of the Electronic Product Code (EPC) technology; Central Command (CENTCOM) Directive for RFID tagging. Savi drives formation of the Strategic Security Advisory Council to help stimulate cargo security solutions post-911.

2003: RFID product ramp up support for Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). UK Ministry of Defence contracts for an RF-ITV network initially in support of OIF.

2004: Savi forms Savi Networks in a joint venture with Hutchison Port Holdings. Savi Networks provides information services to monitor the location, security and condition of global intermodal containers and their contents. RF-ITV integrated into Standard Army Retail Supply System (SARSS). Win NATO contracts for RF-ITV network pilot to track supplies from Europe into Afghanistan, which later becomes operational.

2005: Total Asset Visibility (TAV)-Portable Deployment Kit (PDK) with Savi Manifesting Application fielded. Australian Defense Force contracts for RF-ITV network solutions.

2006: Savi Technology is acquired by Lockheed Martin.

2007: Fourteen companies sign up for Savi's new Intellectual Property licensing programs for the ISO 18000-7 and ISO 18185 active RFID standards.

2008: Savi Technology gets one-year RFID II contract increase and extension as the sole source provider of active RFID products and services to the DoD, bringing the total value to $483 million. Unified Logistics Systems (ULS) wins contract to merge DLA's Integrated Data Environment (IDE) distribution system with USTRANSCOM's Global Transportation Network (GTN) into a unified system called IDE/GTN Convergence (IGC). ULS also wins GTN sustainment contract, bringing total value of GTN since 1995 to $475 million.

2009: Savi Technology celebrates its 20th year in business.
